The Jackson Elementary School PTA is made up of parents and teachers who pool their talents every year to provide practical support for our school.  The board members below have volunteered to provide leadership for this academic year.  They are so very excited to be your PTA board.

Board Positions:

 

All PTA Board Members

Purpose:

To follow state and national PTA guidelines to ensure the Jackson PTA is providing the best services for all the students, teachers and schools needs, as determined by the Jackson PTA Mission Statement.

Qualifications:

  • Outgoing, friendly and easy going personality
  • Dependable/reliable
  • Good at multi-tasking and planning ahead
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to delegate tasks or take direction
  • Ability to think and speak objectively
  • A good listener and effective communicator

 

PTA President

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for and preside over monthly Board meetings and monthly PTA meetings
  • Maintain regular “check-in” meetings with and serve as the primary contact person with the school principal
  • Represent the PTA with other groups if needed
  • Maintain a positive report with teachers, students, parents and volunteers and encourage their participation in PTA, events, activities, and student services.
  • Plan and finalize activities calendar for the school year

Average Weekly Hours:

10-15 hours per week, depending on upcoming events

Experience:

No experience necessary. Training is provided and former president will act as an advisor when needed.

 

PTA Vice President

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly Board and monthly PTA meetings
  • Assist the President and perform President duties if President is absent
  • Be a liaison for new families
  • Lead annual membership drive

Average Weekly Hours:

5-10 hours per week, depending on upcoming events

Experience:

No experience necessary. Training is provided and former board members are on hand when needed.

 

Secretary

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly Board and monthly PTA meetings
  • Record and distribute meeting minutes for board meetings and PTA meetings
  • Maintain records of all minutes, agendas, and other information distributed at any PTA meeting
  • Manage communications and marketing for the PTA
  • Update bulletin board
  • Write thank you notes, and other correspondence on behalf of the PTA with approval from the Board.

**Can be divided into two positions: Recording Secretary and Communication Secretary

Average Weekly Hours:

5-10 hours per week, depending on upcoming events

Experience:

No experience necessary. Training is provided and former board members are on hand when needed.

 

Treasurer

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly Board and monthly PTA meetings
  • Post all financial transactions to the financial system as they occur each month
  • Create and distribute monthly Treasurer Reports for PTA meetings
  • Reconcile the checkbook
  • Write checks as needed (two signatures and proper paperwork required)
  • Make deposits in a timely fashion, as needed
  • Facilitate annual audit, lead annual budget meeting and present budget for approval
  • File taxes (Jackson PTA hires a tax preparer. Treasurer must provide necessary documents)

Average Weekly Hours:

10-15 hours per week, can be done at home depending on upcoming events

Experience:

No experience necessary. Do need basic math skills, computer skills, the ability to keep a paper trail and the desire to keep a balanced budget. Training is provided and former Treasurer is on hand when needed.
